Welcome to Write with Tanya
Tanya Alsberg is a fiction writer, mental health counselor and educator. She has worked as a legal proofreader and an ice cream truck driver, as well as a professional knitter for over a quarter of a century.
Tanya began leading creative writing salons in 2020, in the midst of a pandemic that changed the world. 200+ salons later, she is dedicated to making writing fun and accessible, while creating a restorative space for individuals moving through life with a pen in their hand or a keyboard at their fingertips.
What happens in a writing salon?
Tanya provides a prompt to the group, and everyone writes.
It can be stream of consciousness word association, poetry, a short story, a list, a memory, a letter, or ANYTHING AT ALL. Every participant has an opportunity to read what they've written. THIS IS NOT REQUIRED. After each reading, all participants are encouraged to share positive feedback - what they liked, what surprised them, what imagery or feelings it evoked, etc.
Who should come?
Aspiring, lapsed, practicing, and self-described “not” writers.
Salons are usually about an hour and a half long, and depending on the topic and your feelings that day, you will almost certainly laugh and you might even cry. You will definitely write something.
